HOW THE DAY WORKS.
Unlike standard tours that push the same fixed route every day regardless of the weather, we adapt every single hike to the actual conditions on the mountain.
The day before the hike, we review the updated forecast, wind, and snow conditions to pick the summit that offers the best light, scenery, and safest walking for that morning. If you have a specific peak in mind when you book, let us know. If conditions align, we are always happy to build the day around it.
We meet directly at the trailhead, check your footwear and clothing, and fit either snowshoes or microspikes depending on the terrain.
The hike usually takes around three to five hours with roughly 500 metres of elevation gain. We keep a steady, comfortable pace. Midway through the hike, we stop somewhere sheltered from the wind to drink hot coffee or tea, take photos, and look out over the fjords.
We take our time on the top ridge before heading down together, wrapping up the day at a relaxed pace without any rushing.
IS THIS HIKE FOR YOU?
You do not need prior mountaineering or snowshoeing experience, but you do need decent physical fitness.
This trip is a good fit if:
You enjoy hiking in summer and feel comfortable walking uphill for a few hours.
You want to reach a real winter summit without worrying about route-finding, ice, or avalanche safety on your own.
You prefer small, casual groups (maximum 8) over large tour bus groups.
This trip is not for you if:
You want a flat, easy walk in the snow (look at our Snowchoe Scenic Hike instead).
You are looking for technical ice climbing with ropes and ice axes.
WHY WITH TRAD?
Winter in Lofoten can be wild, unpredictable, and that’s exactly why we love it! Our guides live here year-round and know how to read the weather, the snow, and the light to make every outing both safe and unforgettable.
We run TRAD because we prefer small groups, direct conversations, and honest days outdoors.
We do not promise "guaranteed northern lights" or "life-changing journeys." We provide experienced local guiding, proper equipment, and a safe, well-planned day on the mountain.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to bring my own snowshoes or crampons?
No. All technical gear (snowshoes, microspikes, and trekking poles) is included in the price. You only need your personal warm layers and sturdy winter hiking boots.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
Mountain weather in Northern Norway moves fast. If high winds or poor visibility make the peak unsafe, we adjust the route to a more sheltered mountain shoulder or valley.
If severe storms force us to cancel the trip completely, you receive a full refund or the option to reschedule for another day during your stay.
What if I am travelling alone?
Most of our guests join solo or as couples. Because our groups are capped at 8 people, the atmosphere is easygoing and informal. You will not be walking with a crowd of strangers on a mega-tour.
What if I need to cancel my trip?
Life happens. If you need to cancel up to 7 days before the start date, you receive a full refund. No stress and no endless paperwork.
If something comes up last minute within those 7 days, let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to reschedule your dates.

Spectacular hikes with TRAD!
I had never used crampons or snowshoes and they helped me a lot. We did several routes and everything was great.
Furthermore, their recommendations (places to eat, saunas, accommodation, routes, towns, views...) were all amazing.
They are very nice and very professional. Without a doubt, the best option to get to know Lofoten!
