THE EXPERIENCE
You do not need any previous winter experience for this trip. If you can walk on a regular path, you can use snowshoes. Within five minutes of putting them on, it becomes second nature.
We meet directly at the trailhead around the Kabelvåg area and head into the quiet valleys, frozen lakes, and birch forests. This is a gentle, 2 to 3-hour walk designed for anyone who wants to experience the Arctic landscape without steep climbs or fast-paced mountain hiking.
We keep group sizes small, take plenty of stops, and bring hot drinks to enjoy along the way..
HOW THE DAY LOOKS.
We meet at the trailhead, check your boots, and adjust your snowshoes and poles. We give you a quick briefing on how to walk comfortably in deep snow. it takes just a few minutes to get the hang of it.
We follow low-level trails through the trees and open valleys, far away from traffic and crowds. The pace is easy and steady. We stop often to look at the landscape, talk about what winter life is like in Lofoten, and pause for a hot drink before heading back.
IS THIS WALK FOR YOU?
This trip is a good fit if:
You want a relaxed, low-impact way to explore snowy terrain.
You are travelling with family, a partner, or on your own and prefer small, quiet groups.
It is your first time visiting the Arctic or using snowshoes.
This trip is not for you if:
You are looking for mountain summits or steep elevation gain (check our Ryten & Kvalvika or Winter Summit Hike instead).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is snowshoeing difficult?
No. Snowshoeing is simply walking with a wider foot. Most guests feel completely comfortable within ten minutes.
Will I be too cold?
Lofoten winters are relatively mild thanks to the Gulf Stream (usually between −5 °C and +2 °C at sea level). As long as you wear warm wool layers, a windproof outer jacket, and good boots, the walking keeps you warm and comfortable.
Can children join?
Yes. This is our most accessible winter activity and works well for families with children who are comfortable walking outdoors for two to three hours.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
Mountain weather in Northern Norway moves fast. If high winds or poor visibility make the walk unsafe, we adjust the route to a more sheltered valley.
If severe storms force us to cancel the trip completely, you receive a full refund or the option to reschedule for another day during your stay.
What if I am travelling alone?
Most of our guests join solo or as couples. Because our groups are capped at 8 people, the atmosphere is easygoing and informal. You will not be walking with a crowd of strangers on a mega-tour.
What if I need to cancel my trip?
Life happens. If you need to cancel up to 7 days before the start date, you receive a full refund. No stress and no endless paperwork.
If something comes up last minute within those 7 days, let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to reschedule your dates.

Javi guided us up to Geitgalljen in a fantastic skitouring day full of adventure. I would totally repeat this experience or any other with TRAD. Javi is a great guide, very professional and always making sure that you are going to have a great adventure, while being safe.

Spectacular hikes with TRAD!
I had never used crampons or snowshoes and they helped me a lot. We did several routes and everything was great.
Furthermore, their recommendations (places to eat, saunas, accommodation, routes, towns, views...) were all amazing.
They are very nice and very professional. Without a doubt, the best option to get to know Lofoten!
